An Trebil: Do not, I repeat do not audition for American Idol if you want a serious career in performing arts. You'll always carry around the tag of American Idol. Are you a talented vocalist? You have to have a true passion and love for music to persue this career. You're best bet would be to find a liberal arts college with a good music school and study vocal performance. It will take a lot of determination and patience on your part.
Alonso Crehan: don't go on american idol. as many other people have answered. it is not a good way to start a carreer unless your Kelly Clarkson... Anyways, if your looking for a musical theater carreer be you should be already taking dance singing and acting classes weekly. If you just want to be a singer, make sure you spend time with a vocal coach, privatly seems to always call for more improvement, but either way you can, get into a voice class! Good luck and be sure to have a good range , that's a great way to get noticed!...Sho! w more
Sharee Doak: Some advice (I along with my daughter are actresses, but signing is still part of the "biz" so this advice should still help)1. Make sure your family is 100% behind you. Since your underage you cannot do this by yourself. Your parents have to be willing to drive you to auditons, meeting with agents, lessons, and gigs if you get them.2. Make sure that you are in this all the way after you have your parents "on board". The "biz" can be expansive (and also highly rewarding), so you can't just quit because one day you don't feel "up to this". Like joining a sports team, acting/signing is a commitment, and a career.3. Take lessons and get experience! Look into local theater groups, and school plays. Both of which usually do musicals. If you can't necasarilly auditon for a play, still try to get your foot "in the door" by working back stage, which in the future may help you hear about auditions in the future. Also, try going to preforming art camps if yo! u like summer camps.4. After you have taken lessons and built ! up your resume, trying getting connections. One way of doing this is by meeting the "right people". You could go to some intensives, like through the NewWorkStudio www.thenetworkstudio.com or www.thenetworkstudioeast.com which both have great intensives. (My daughter met Kathryn Taylor, a large casting director for Disney/Nickoledion through them)5. If you don't want to go to intensives, fine. They won't break your career if you dont go. After you have experience (This is where you really need your parents) try to find an agent/manager. You can contact SAG (www.sag.org) or AFTRA (www.aftra.org) to find "good agents". Send in headshots/resumes for acting, or some agencies like demos for singers.Hope I helped some! *You may enjoy reading "Raising a Star" by Nancy Carson. Edmund Rappley: Spend the next three years taking singing lessons/doing solos in your school choir so you have a chance at "Idol." You won't get good by "leaning towards singling." Get professional help.
Shan Lanen: At your age my best suggestion would be to look out into the community, or ask your parents to help you do some research on local community theatre. In my community there were quite a few theatre schools just for kids your age. If you can find a SPA (school of performing arts) or any kind of school/performance program-definitely check it out. If you were not blessed with a performing-arts-accomodating community like I was as a child, check out your local churches, or the one y! ou belong to (if you belong to one). Churches are one of the best outl! ets for performance starving kids, they put on plays, and quite often musicals (so you can keep working on your singing :) ). Also you may want to look into voice lessons-remember-you can always improve yourself. Good luck!...Show more
