Why is racism against lighter skinned people more accepted than against darker skinned people?

Jesse Japak: because there is more racism against black people than white people. Moreover, racism against black people is engrained into society. black people are less likely to get a good education, more likely to be in prison and more likely to be unhealthy. Being black in society is often a disadvantage, being white is rarely a disadvantage. That being said, obviously racism against white people is wrong and should be stopped when it happens.

Usually with "social crimes" like racism, it's the majority race who does it to the minority race(s) in order to maintain their social standing. It's a lot harder for the reverse to happen just because there's power in nu! mbers. Also, the laws of the land are written and enforced by members of the majority race and tend to favor them. I've lived in parts of the world where everyone had dark skin and people would still pick out the darkest-skinned among them to call names and tease. Oscar Waddups: I think it has something to do with recent history (the past 300 or so years). Slavery and segregation of blacks, Mexican immigrants being discriminated throughout American history, Chinese Americans being forced to work with little or no pay to help build America's railways, the internment of Japanese Americans, the near annihilation of Native Americans, and the treatment of Arabs and even Indians (from India) as being suspect of terrorism merely based on their heritage. Now, does that make it right? Of course not. But, the mentality of those who think it! is ok to be racist against whites is based on a view that we ! more or less are the only race that deserve to be discriminated against considering whites have a long history of doing it to everyone else. However, every race has been discriminated against throughout history, including whites. Every race has had a period where segments of it were forced to be subservient to another race and/or was discriminated against in some way.What we need is to stop viewing race and start viewing each other as humans.
