Cortez Badolato: No. If MacArthur had invaded China the US would have gotten bogged down in an unwinnable war just like the Japanese did fifteen years earlier.
Kip Ockenfels: Many thought he should have.
Azalee Ahrendes: 1.) Winston Chruchill had created a military plan called "Operation Unthinkable". Where American, Britian, and France would lead a premtive strike against Russia after Japan has surrendered. In his estimations the allied forces of America, Britian, and France would lose around another 2 - 5 million soldiers, and the USSR would win with a counter offensive. Or both sides sued for peace but with the USSR having more influence over the treaty. Meaning that they could demand more land given to them then what they had to begin with. America didn't have another functioning bomb untill mid - late 1946 and we could only produce about 2 bombs per year. The USSR had their first sucessful atomic bomb test in 1947 so they would have the nuclear capabilit! ies as well. 2.) Truman did send some material to the Chinese civil war. But he did not want to have any evidence of it for the Communist Chinese or even the USSR to find out. And he certian couldn't send troops. The American population was already very weary of sending troops to Korea after suffering such large losses from World War 2 just five years ago. So to get involved with the Chinese civil war publicly could have very severe backlash from the american people....Show more
